Validating Drivers’ Mobile Numbers via Text Message
With a new feature for validating drivers’ mobile numbers, Cargoclix ensures, within its SLOT time slot management system, that the telephone number provided in a booking exists, is correct and actually belongs to the driver.
Validation takes place via a text message containing a confirmation code (4 or 6 digits), which must be entered during the booking process or directly at the terminal. The feature is an integral part of SLOT and was developed specifically for use at the terminal (during driver self-check-in).
The reason for introducing this new feature is to ensure reliable communication with drivers (e.g. status text messages, terminal instructions), to improve data quality in bookings, to organise smoother self-check-in processes at the terminal, and to avoid manual rework for site and gate staff.
This is how the validation works:
When a driver’s mobile number is entered, the system checks – depending on the configuration – whether validation is required. If this is the case, SLOT automatically sends an SMS containing a confirmation code to the number provided. The code must be entered either in the SLOT booking form or at the terminal during self-check-in. If this is successful, the telephone number is considered verified and becomes valid across all systems. This means that a number confirmed at the terminal is automatically valid in SLOT as well, and vice versa.
To avoid unnecessary duplicate text messages, it is possible to specify at the CargoMarket level how long a validated number remains valid (e.g. 90 days). If the same driver’s mobile number has already been successfully validated for the same freight forwarder, no further validation is required within this period.
Activation in SLOT takes place at the ‘Ramp’ level (field: Mobile phone, setting: ‘Mobile number verification required’). Once activated, the validation is automatically displayed in the SLOT booking screen. The validation status is indicated by an icon.
