Cargoclix: “Lockdown light” has no effect on ramps

(Freiburg i.Br., 2.12.2020) The recently extended “lockdown light” of the German government as a measure to contain the Covid 19 pandemic has not affected the volume of goods on the ramps. As reported by the Freiburg Internet marketplace Cargoclix, provider of the modular time slot management system SLOT, the number of bookings in the food and automotive sectors during the first three lockdown weeks in November was almost at the same level as the previous year. This was the result of an internal analysis.
The situation had looked completely different during the first lockdown at the end of March. According to the analysis, manufacturers and retailers of food and beverages had booked 21 percent more time slots for loading and unloading trucks in the last week of March than in the last week of February and had reacted to so-called hamster purchases. The supply chains of the car manufacturers and those of their suppliers, on the other hand, were noticeably disrupted by the coronavirus. During the lockdown in the first week of April, according to Cargoclix, almost 50 percent fewer time slots were booked in this area than in the last week of February – some companies even reserved no slots at all during this time. To collect the data, the provider of the cloud-based time slot management system had evaluated the booking figures of about 30 companies per segment.
So that ramp operators can prepare themselves in the coming months for the consequences of possible further restrictions, Cargoclix has extended the deployment of its task force, which had already proven itself in the spring, until further notice. It ensures that the modularly adaptable time window management system can be installed within 24 hours. The installation is free of charge if no complex interfaces have to be programmed. “Whoever organizes the handling at his ramps and thus his processes and personnel deployment well, can react spontaneously to both restrictions and peak phases,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Victor Meier, consulting partner at Cargoclix.
The booking of a time window costs 50 cents. The booking costs can be borne either by the site operators or their logistics service providers. Cargoclix SLOT currently has about 65,000 users, and the trend is rising.
