Hellmann allocates time windows in contract logistics
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has introduced time window management at the outgoing goods ramps at the Lehrte contract logistics location. Since the beginning of April, the web-based “TimeSlot” system from the Freiburg-based software company Cargoclix has been in use there to optimize the supply of central warehouses to a large drugstore chain.
“Our goal was to equalize peak times in the early morning and at lunchtime and to utilize our outgoing goods capacities more evenly. The effect was immediate,” says Udo Gütlinger, branch manager in Lehrte. TimeSlot was chosen because it is web-based, intuitive to use and well-known throughout the industry.
Hellmann manages approximately 38,000 square meters of contralogistics space in the multi-user warehouse. From there, all eight central warehouses of the drugstore chain in Germany and Eastern Europe are supplied with imported goods. Every day, up to 30 trucks drive to the four ramps in the outgoing goods area. Drivers or dispatchers can reserve a slot on the Internet between 14 days in advance and 2 p.m. on the day before delivery.
The booking of a time window is not yet obligatory for carriers in the introduction phase, but whoever delivers without time window must wait for a free slot. In the introductory phase, Hellmann bears the booking costs of 50 cents per slot.
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is one of the largest international logistics service providers. The company has a global network of 19,500 employees in 437 branches in 162 countries.
