Coronavirus: Timeslot bookings normalize

(Freiburg i.Br., 9.6.2020) Even though the Covid 19 pandemic continues to leave its mark everywhere and companies are still far from a normal working day, everyday life is slowly returning to the ramps in Germany. According to a current analysis of the Freiburg Internet marketplace Cargoclix, which has evaluated the booking of time slots of its customers within its timeslot management system SLOT, the number of bookings in the food sector at the end of May was still about seven percent above the previous year’s value, but again 14 percent below the values of the lockdown of the last week of March. At the end of March, timeslot bookings by manufacturers and retailers of food and beverages had soared by more than a fifth. 

There are also signs of recovery among car manufacturers and their suppliers, who have been severely affected by the crisis. While during the lockdown in the first week of April, 50 percent fewer time slots were booked than a few weeks earlier, demand for timeslots rose again by around 30 percent by the end of May and was thus only about two percent below the previous year’s level. 

For the report, the software experts analyzed SLOT customers in the automotive and food sectors respectively. 

Already at the beginning of the Corona crisis Cargoclix had set up a task force which installed the modularly adaptable time slot management system SLOT, which is currently used by more than 65,000 users, within 24 hours – an offer which met with great demand. “In spite of, or perhaps because of Corona, we had many customers who decided at short notice to use our SLOT system,” reports Prof. Dr. Victor Meier, consulting partner at Cargoclix. Against the background that many companies are now ramping up their production again, he advises companies from industry and trade to prepare themselves for future order peaks and to set up their own logistics well with suitable tools. “For this reason we will maintain our SLOT installation service in the coming weeks,” he says. 

The installation of Cargoclix SLOT is free of charge if no complex interfaces have to be programmed. The booking of a timeslot costs 50 cents, the costs of which can be borne either by the site operators or their logistics service providers.
